New York, NY (February 1, 2005)--

The recent promotional campaign for a two-part documentary for the Discovery Times channel brought viewers momentarily into the world of electronic surveillance, preparing them for the reality of "Someone's Watching." Airing in December, "Someone's Watching" broke down the public perception of privacy, exploring all of the electronic innovations--software, tracking devices, data mining--employed in professional eavesdropping, telling true stories of those civilians who've been "watched." NYC's G&E Music delivered a techie, sci-fi score and sound design package for the promo campaign, conveying the message that we live in a supervised world.

Campaign producer Mike Coslow hired Glenn Schloss and Erik Blicker (G&E) to compose and record the music for the promo, working with Los Angeles-based video house Montgomery & Co. Creative. Montgomery's Debbie Rankin assures, "It was a challenging project visually because we wanted to make it very techie; however, we had a limited amount of footage, so really had to
rely on graphics. The music that G&E composed,
really set the pieces above the visuals, and
enhanced what we were trying to achieve."

According to Schloss, G&E was originally
hired to handle the score and sound
design package, but after handing
over a hard driving techno-rock
score, the music powerhouse
wound up mixing the whole
campaign, which weighed in
heavily at around 30 spots all
together. " It was a little hairy because more spots kept getting added, but we had nailed the music in the beginning, and each spot involved derivatives of the same music," says Blicker, who mixed the whole campaign in G&E's Pro Tools HD-equipped studio.

Rankin continues, "G&E were great to work with. They had such energy, and this was not an easy project. Our primary contact went out of town and a secondary contact took over the project. When this happened, there were some adjustments to the project made. Their adaptability all the way through the project, even though more was added to their plate, really set them apart from other music houses."

G&E's Brian Quill created some killer sound design for the project as well, custom creating a rich environment of computer tones and speedy sci-fi swooshes all on an analog synthesizer. "Glenn and Erik filled me in on what key they were writing in, so every sound effect I made could be specifically tailored to that key. When I saw the spot, I saw sort of an "Enemy of the State" vibe, and knew I could accomplish the most original effective sound design by twisting knobs on my synth. None of it comes from a library."

A full-service music house, equipped with a new Pro Tools HD2 system, G&E's NYC facility accommodates recording, voice-overs, and mixing. The G&E crew continues to be a source of original music, sound design, and audio post for the Discovery Channel, and other networks, working with ingenuity and efficiency to bring musical life to promotional campaigns.
